About the Festival

Follow us

The inspiration for the festival’s icon came by the myth of “Leda and the Swan”. The festival is named “Leda’s Monologues” after Leda, daughter of Thestius and Princess of the Kingdom of Ancient Aetolia. Later on, she became the Queen of Sparta. She was the mother of Helen of Troy.

Leonardo Da Vinci was one of the many who got inspired by the myth and created a series of sketches and paintings. Most of them are unfortunately lost but re-created by his many pupils (known as the “Leonaderschi”). Among the great painters and artists who created major works of art based on Leda, are: Raffaello, Michelangelo, Paul Cézanne, Peter Paul Rubens and Jean Thierry.
